2022 Senior Scholarships

Sandy Historical Society awarded three $1500.00 scholarships for 2022 graduating seniors during an awards ceremony at Sandy High School June 1. Museum representative Ken Funk stands with recipients Zander Ortega and Will Noel.

Noel, first in the graduating class of 225 students, plans to study at the University of Oregon to become a teacher. Ortega's goal is to pursue mechanical engineering and computer science at Oregon Institute of Technology. Not pictured is third recipient Alexis Cumiford, who intends to learn dental hygiene at Mount Hood Community College. Scholarship applications required candidates to have at least one relative who had graduated from Sandy High School, and winners were chosen in a blind selection process involving points for considerations such as grades, achievements, activities, recommendations, community involvement/volunteering, and other deserving qualities.

The scholarships are funded by sales of buttered corn-on-the-cob at the Sandy Mountain Festival in Meinig Park south of Sandy's City Hall. The corn booth will be open July 9 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and July 10 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sales will fund next year's scholarships.
