Open HouseStart To Holiday Season
An enthusiastic crowd packed the town square Friday evening for Sandy’s Tree Lighting in an event not only to spark Christmas spirit, but also sure to swell hearts in hometown spirit. Celebrating with hot chocolate from the Ant Farm and Tollgate Bakery and candy canes provided by the Rotary Club of Sandy, merrymakers of all ages awaited the countdown. If you were not able to be there, you can see and sense some of the excitement in the accompanying photo(s).
In his dapper tophat, DJ Anderson emceed the program, which included music oby the Sandy High School Choir. A choir member drew the winning ticket from a gift box for the long-awaited Sandy Historical Museum’s 2022 Raffle Quilt Drawing. The winner, Teress Stevens, was a former Sandy Area Metro (SAM) driver who relocated to New Orleans, Louisiana. The unique quilt using batik fabric cut by master quilter Julie Chahon, pieced together by board member Gary Coats, bound by Cathy Crownover of Friends of the Museum, and long-arm quilted by Carol Babcock, will be shipped to the winner. Sandy’s Bear Mountain Cabin Quilt will have a new home, and a piece of Sandy will be in New Orleans.
Next to the square, the Open House at the museum welcomed more than 400 visitors during the event. Kids’ crafts were supervised upstairs. The Mt. Hood Dulcimers played Christmas music as after-hours shoppers searched the gift shop full of local artisans’ wares for treasures. Confectionaries and music sweetened spirits for a good start to the season.
