SHS entry won great parade awards during festival days
At the awards ceremony Saturday, July 8, we learned that Sandy Historical Society’s entry in the parade July 6 had won some prestigious awards: two big blue ribbons and an engraved plaque..
The vintage 1924 Model T Ford pickup owned and cared for by Wynn Thies, looked great and its bright red color coordinated well with the “America” theme. The colors, flags, and Connie Revenue Selzler’s holiday costume all sparked the patriotic spirit.
The banner and walkers in their mountain man or pioneer costumes reminded us of efforts to build this country. The actors walking with us impersonated a local family, even down to the little baby. They stayed in character the whole way. We were told one of the blue ribbons was for the vehicle. The other big blue ribbon and plaque were the Lynn Ellis Memorial Award for the “best community entry.” The plaque is being engraved with the recipient namd at present but should have a place of honor when it returns.
All can feel good that our efforts together won such positive recognition.
