Introducing the 2023 Raffle “Garden Party” Quilt

Our new raffle quilt for 2023 is hanging in Clackamas County Bank at 38975 Proctor Boulevard in Sandy. This beautiful quilt was sewn and donated to the museum by Shirley Crow, a skilled seamstress and quilter who was long a member of the quilt and fiber arts club (QFAC) which met regularly at the museum before the pandemic. The club offered a quilt to raffle each year for many years, with all proceeds benefiting museum operations.

The quilt is called “Garden Party” and is a picture quilt rather than a geometric design. It depicts an appliqued spring garden scene including earth, bird, flowers, tree, and sky. All of the applique work is stitched by hand and took the creator four years to complete.

“The hardest part was the tree,” she said. The tree had to be cut from one piece of fabric, stretched up the left side of the quilt, across the top, and had to be woven over and under other elements of the picture, so it was not like working on one small block at a time. Seeing the quality of work makes it difficult to understand how the maker could give it away. This quilt is truly a treasure.

Tickets are the usual vintage price of $2 each, or three tickets for $5, to benefit a good cause. Purchases can be made at the bank, at the museum at 39345 Pioneer Blvd, Sandy, at other venues where the quilt will be displayed, or online.
