The Sandy Historical Society
The Sandy Historical Society & Museum has been the collector and guardian of the history of the Sandy area since 1926. Our museum sits on Pioneer Boulevard, a part of the original Barlow Road. Here we have information on the founding family Francis and Lydia Revenue, a wonderful historical display of the Logging industry from the mid 1800s and many more interesting displays. A library of historical data is available for research or just enjoyment.
The society was founded on 27 June 1926 at the 70th birthday party of John Henry Revenue, the first pioneer child born in the Sandy area. Later that year the constitution and by-laws were adopted and the official name chosen as "Pioneers and Early Settlers of Sandy and Vicinity". ln the early 1990s the final name change to "Sandy Historical Society, Incorporated" was made. Construction on the museum building started in June 2004 on land that the Barlow Road had crossed from 1846 until 1919. The museum was completed and opened in 2007 and added the gift shop in 2009.
1926 - present
The Sandy Historical Museum was completed in 2007, thanks to many volunteers and generous donations. This building is a repository for the artifacts and history of the Sandy area, which encompasses the entire Oregon Trail School District, which includes Sandy, Boring, the Greater Mount Hood area, and other surrounding cities.
